The Internationalist Queer Pride for Liberation 2024 took place on 27.07.2024

Dearest friends, comrades and lovers of IQPB,

On Saturday 27 July, more than 15,000 of us took to the streets as part of @iqpberlin to celebrate our interconnected liberation struggles and to protest against colonialism, imperialism, zionism, homophobia and transphobia.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible for the fourth year and counting: volunteers, collectives, performers, marshalls, speakers, awareness, medics, photographers, lauti hosts, lawyers, blocs, and everyone who attended the demo!

From the beginning, police threatened to dissolve the demo, with arrests before the demo even started. Throughout the protest, police pushed against the crowd and grabbed people’s banners and signs. The Queers4Palestine bloc was targeted by police with great violence – and within the bloc, police brutality disproportionately attacked queer people of color, older women, minors, and disabled people. Police violently stopped journalists from following arrests or documenting police violence.

Dozens of people were hurt, including pepper spray burns, bruises, and concussions, several needing hospital treatment for their injuries. At least 25 people were detained, and several were taken to police stations.

Although this was a huge increase in police brutality compared to previous IQPs, it is consistent with the current climate of harsh repression against pro-Palestinian voices. All of this shows that despite the pinkwashing narrative, the police only protect capital and the state — they never protect queer people. Despite the challenging circumstances, people reacted with a strong sense of solidarity, fighting hard to stay together and supporting the people arrested.

We’re proud to stand in solidarity with all anti-imperialist, anti-colonial and pro-queer movements in Berlin and worldwide, and we know that we are stronger when we fight together against state repression, to reclaim our streets and for our collective liberation.

Let us continue to care for each other and fight together, not only during Pride but all year long because none of us is free until all of us are free.
